COLUMBUS, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) — According to the Columbus Police Department, former employee Joey Winford is no longer authorized to act on behalf of the agency.
“The Columbus Police Department is notifying the public that JOEY WINFORD is no longer employed by this department and is not authorized to act on its behalf,” the department stated in a public notice.
“We have received complaints that this individual continues to present department incident/case cards and a previously issued employee identification card in a manner that leads people to believe he is still employed by the Columbus Police Department,” the agency added. “Possession of these items does not establish current employment or authorization to represent our department.”
The department advised community members: “If you have had contact with this individual while he was representing himself as a current Columbus Police Department employee, or if you need to verify someone’s affiliation with our department, please contact us directly through our official channels.”
Following the department’s notice, Winford responded publicly in a social media post denying the allegations.
“I DID NOT ONCE MAKE A STATEMENT SAYING I WAS STILL EMPLOYED AT THE COLUMBUS POLICE DEPARTMENT,” Winford wrote. “Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a federal police officer for the Columbus Air Force Base. There’s no way to confuse the two other than tht both departments are in the same city.”
