MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) — Meridian Regional Airport will conduct a full-scale emergency response exercise on Tuesday, June 16, beginning around 8 a.m., according to a press release.
The drill is required by the Federal Aviation Administration, which mandates that airports test their Airport Emergency Plan every 36 months. Beyond fulfilling that requirement, the exercise gives local agencies a chance to practice coordinating a real-time response across multiple jurisdictions, similar to what would be needed during an actual emergency, the release states.
Airport officials say the exercise will not affect flight schedules, including departures and arrivals.
Residents near the airport may see police cars, fire trucks and ambulances responding to the area Tuesday morning. Officials emphasized this activity is part of the planned drill and not an actual emergency.
