On September 3, the Richland Police Department FLEX Unit helped the United States Marshals Service with locating and arresting a wanted fugitive from the State of North Carolina.
Authorities learned that the suspect, Mark Jacques Greene, of Raleigh, North Carolina, was possibly staying at a hotel in Richland. Greene had 8 active felony warrants for: two counts of Child Rape, 4 counts of Statutory Sex Offense with a Child, and two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child.
The suspect’s vehicle was found parked at a hotel in Richland and after conducting surveillance, Mark Greene was positively identified, while loading personal belongings into the vehicle. Authorities said it appeared that he was about to leave the area.
The United States Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, along with the Richland FLEX Unit, attempted to move in and take Greene into custody but he fled on foot.
Greene did not make it far at all when he was surrounded by officers, and two K9 officers. Greene surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
After the arrest, officers uncovered what appeared to be a credit card fraud operation, where the suspect was involved in stealing bank account information and cloning cards with the stolen account information.
Greene will be extradited back to North Carolina, to answer for the alleged charges.
