The Mississippi Highway Patrol has begun enforcement efforts for the New Year’s Holiday Travel Period, which starts on December 31st at 6:00 a.m. and ends on January 1st at midnight. Troopers will utilize high-visibility patrols and safety checkpoints to encourage safe driving and the use of seat belts and car seats.

“As we approach the New Year’s holiday, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and first responders across Mississippi are committed to ensuring the safety of everyone traveling on our roadways,” said DPS Commissioner Sean Tindell. “We urge all Mississippians to celebrate responsibly by wearing seat belts, obeying traffic laws, and never driving under the influence. Let’s work together to make this a safe and joyous start to the New Year for everyone.”

“As we wrap up 2024 and gear up for the new year, it is crucial that we remain vigilant about safe travel,” said MHP Lt. Colonel James Ivory. “We are committed to establishing a solid foundation for a safe and successful 2025, and we need the public’s active participation to achieve this. It is imperative that you have a plan to ensure a safe New Year’s celebration. Together, we can ensure that we all welcome the New Year safely and joyfully.”
