A second case of bird flu has been detected in commercial poultry in Mississippi, according to the Mississippi Board of Animal Health.
WTVA reports that the latest case involves a commercial broiler chicken flock in Copiah County and follows a similar case reported before Christmas in Greene County.
Officials announced Tuesday that precautionary measures have been taken to prevent the virus from spreading further. The Mississippi Board of Animal Health emphasized that none of the birds from either affected flock entered the food supply chain, ensuring that supermarket poultry remains safe for consumers.
The board also reassured the public that bird flu does not pose a food safety risk. However, poultry owners are urged to remain vigilant and monitor their flocks for signs of illness.
Symptoms of Bird Flu in Chickens:

- Lack of energy or appetite

The Mississippi Board of Animal Health is asking anyone who observes these symptoms in their chickens to report them immediately through their designated reporting channels.
This is the second confirmed bird flu case in Mississippi this year.
