Source: MEMA

The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning of an enhanced risk of severe weather across Mississippi Friday evening (March 14) into Saturday morning (March 15), with conditions worsening to a moderate risk by Saturday afternoon and evening.

Residents are urged to take precautions now as the system could bring damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes, and flash flooding.

How to Prepare for Severe Weather

-Stay Informed – Keep a close watch on the latest weather updates from the National Weather Service and local news sources.

-Have a Plan – Discuss an emergency plan with your family, including where to take shelter if needed.

-Multiple Alert Methods – Ensure you have at least two ways to receive weather alerts, such as a weather radio, emergency alert apps, or text notifications.

-Know Your Safe Place – Identify a sturdy, interior room in your home, away from windows. If you live in a mobile home or flood-prone area, have an alternate shelter location ready.

-Check Your Disaster Supply Kit – Restock essentials like flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food, bottled water, medications, and important documents in case of power outages or evacuation.

Severe weather can develop rapidly, and preparedness is key to staying safe. For more tips on how to protect yourself and your family, visit the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) website at www.msema.org.
