MERIDIAN – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is warning residents about dangerous heat stress expected across the state through Sunday.

According to MEMA, the National Weather Service issued the warning for Thursday, June 12, through Sunday, June 14.

High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with heat index values climbing between 105 and 110 degrees.

Officials are reminding residents to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and take frequent breaks, especially when spending time outdoors.

Residents are also encouraged to check on children, older adults, outdoor workers and others who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.

According to MEMA’s extreme heat safety tips, residents should limit time outside when possible, take frequent breaks in the shade, wear loose clothing, drink plenty of water, never leave people or pets in a hot car, check on elderly and disabled individuals and know the signs of heat-related illness.
