MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – In a bid to beautify their community, Karter Isom, the current president of the Dusty Social Service Club, alongside pledge Lauralee Burinskas, spearheaded a downtown cleanup campaign.
“We’re just going to clean up downtown today, and just make sure that it’s cleaner and just looks better for the community,” expressed Burinskas.
Established in 1947, the Dusty Social Service Club has long been a beacon of community service in the area, providing high school girls with opportunities to volunteer and accrue valuable community service hours.
“During their pledging period, they pledge for six weeks exactly, and they are required to get at least 30 hours, and I’m happy to say that after this week, we will have served at least 1,000 hours of community service,” revealed Isom, proud of the club’s collective achievement.
With celebrations like Juneteenth and other various events downtown coming up, the Dustys said the first impression of the city is everything.
“I just hope they see the beautiful atmosphere and just see that we’re just a community that’s always there to help each other,” shared Burinskas.
Looking ahead, the Dusty Social Service Club gears up for their next big event: the Dusty Leadout in January.
