MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Juneteenth Heritage Festival comes to a close at the Temple Theater in Meridian with a Gospel Celebration and recognition for community Trailblazers.
Terrence Davis is the Cultural Affairs Coordinator for the City of Meridian and he said tonight was all about celebrating, old school gospel music, foot stomping, and honoring those who’ve made an impact in the community.
“This particular year has been very good. We came off of winning the award for Juneteenth earlier this year. After winning an award, it seems like that raises the bar a little bit, but the team came together. The team made sure that everybody in the community had a really good and safe and successful Juneteenth weekend. You couldn’t ask for anything more, and we’re very excited and very passionate about what we’re doing now to prepare us for the future,” said Davis.
Honorees for the event include: Big Krit, Coach Bill McFarland, Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd, Chief Debra Young, and Thomas Walker.
The event was sponsored by Citizens National Bank.
