MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A Blast from the past!
The Meridian Museum of Art hosted its 23rd annual ARTinis at the Museum event.
Walking into the fundraiser was truly like stepping back in time.
The theme for this year was “Get Your Groove On!”
Members and attendees were encouraged to dress in their best 60s and 70s attire.
Director of Communications and Programs, Caleb Phillips said the theme was kind of “no-brainer.”
“A couple months ago, I pulled from out permanent collection some art for the 60s and 70s, and then Marsha Iverson, who’s on the board, decided that’d be a good theme of this year and we stuck with that,” said Phillips.
Kate Cherry is the Executive Director of the Museum, and she said this event is part of what keeps the museum going.
“We usually raise about $10,000 for the event. It’s for our outreach and in-service programming,” said Cherry.
Some of that outreach is right around the corner.
“Starting next week we’ll have our summer classes for the youth. I think we’re doing pottery and drawing and painting next week and then we’ll keep going from there,” said Phillips.
Cherry said the event is important to the exhibits, but it’s also important for the museum’s members.
“They get to visit when they sometimes don’t visit, so I’m always so grateful to see the members come,” said Cherry.
The event was catered by Weidmann’s Restaurant.
