MARION, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Tate’s Fireworks has been a staple in Marion since 2015.
With the 4th of July holiday right around the corner, owner Jeff Tate said firework safety is extremely important.
“The number one thing you need to do with Fireworks is have a water source available. That source of water can be a water hose, bucket of water, fire extinguisher, but something that’ll be able to put out a fire if a firework gets out of hand,” said Tate.
Tate said it’s also important to pay attention to where you’re shooting these fireworks.
“In the county, everything that we have here, you’re fine to shoot. Inside the town of Marion, you’re fine. Inside the city of Meridian, you get a little bit limited then. It’s not that you can’t do anything, it’s just that you can’t do anything too high or too loud. Things like sparklers and smoke bombs, those things are fine, but come on in, we’ve got a knowledgable staff, they can direct you to where that is,” said Tate.
Speaking of Sparklers and Smoke Bombs, there are a few other products that may also attract a younger crowd.
“I like Princess Parachute, you shoot it and you have to shoot this in the daytime because there’s a little princess that comes out and you have to try to get the parachute, and it’s like a little doll toy that you can play with,” said 8-year-old Caroline Tate.
Whether you’re shooting off big fireworks, or something like Princess Parachute, Tate said safety always comes first.
“You really want to have some type of eye protection, whether you’re wearing glasses, sunglasses, goggles, anything that’ll keep that spark away from your eye,” said Tate.
“One time my grandmother did a 200 gram cake, and she put it on sideways, and when she lighted it, it went into the house,” said Caroline.

“So, my grandmother never did big fireworks again,” said Caroline.
(Reporter) “Well that’s a really good example of firework safety, right?”
Tate’s Fireworks has two locations.
One in Marion on the hill behind Family Dollar, and one in Collinsville at the 4-way stop.
