Last Minute Firework Sales Expected to Increase Before Holiday

MARION, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Firework sales are expected to ramp up this week as we get closer to the 4th of July holiday.

Jeff Tate, Owner of Tate’s Fireworks in Marion and Collinsville, said he expects some last minute shoppers.

“Fireworks is the ultimate last minute purchase. So, we’re stocking up, got just about everything stocked up, priced up, and ready for the masses to come on in…

…We’re expecting a good turnout for 4th Of July this year. It’s funny, each year that goes by, it seems like our sales increase buy they get closer and closer to just on the same day. People just put off on getting fireworks. You can see the store is empty right now, we’ve had a few customers come in, but really the 2nd of July, the 3rd of July, and then the mack daddy of them all, the 4th of July, that’s when everybody comes,” said Tate.

Tate said the store is stocked with best sellers and many people come in searching for specific items.

“We’ve got one that’s called Mamba Forever. It’s got the colors of Kobe Bryant of the Lakers, whenever he played with them. That one’s a favorite. We’ve got one called “High Falutin,” that one’s got a lot of spark and crackle to it. There’s people that come and buy several of those. We’re expecting to sale out of those. So I encourage everybody to come on in early while everything’s stocked up, before we sell out, and just see what all we have to offer,” said Tate.

It’s also important to note that in Mississippi, you can shoot fireworks year-round, as long as you don’t live in a municipality— you just can’t sell them year-round.

“In Mississippi, you can sell fireworks from June 15th to July the 5th and then again from December 5th to January 2nd. Outside of those two windows, you really can’t do, you cannot sell fireworks,” said Tate.

Tate’s Fireworks has two locations: one at the 4-way stop in Collinsville and one behind the family dollar in Marion on the hill.
