MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Lauderdale County “Stuff the Bus” campaign by the United Way is Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm.
There are three locations that donations can be made to: the Bonita Walmart, the Walmart on Hwy 19, and Raising Canes Restaurant.
Organizers collect school supplies for local school children and drop them off to the counselors at different schools to be distributed amongst the students.
Madison Carr is the Riley Foundation Summer Intern for United Way of East Mississippi.
She said organizers noticed a great need in the community for supplies.
“Actually last year, over 1,500 students were not registered for school two weeks after it had started due to not having the proper school supplies. So, when our executive director saw that number, she knew that this year we had to make it bigger and better. So, that’s why we decided to be at two local Walmarts this year, so people can go in, purchase school supplies and drop it off on the bus— make it super easy and convenient, so we can help give these students the right start that they need to a great education,” said Carr.
Carr said The Neshoba County “Stuff the Bus” campaign will be Friday, July 12th at Walmart from 9 am to 3 pm.
Clarke County will be July 16th and Kemper County will be July 17th.
