Mississippi Children’s Museum hosts “Members Night” Feat. Lamar Cheerleaders and MPSD Drum Line

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Mississippi Children’s Museum in Meridian hosted a “Members Night” Thursday evening.

Museum members were able to come and enjoy free pizza and ice cream while watching the Lamar Cheerleaders and Meridian High School drum line perform.

“This is an event to get kids excited for the school year coming up. We start next week, so It’s good for us to come out and get them peppy. Basically, we’re having a pep rally for them, and it’s makes them excited,” said Senior cheer captain Gracie Woodall.

Educators said this is an important event for the community, and they hope to inspire area kids.

“We try to open up our facilities, the band hall mainly, just so the kids can come and enjoy the musical aspect of marching band. The drums bring a lot of boom and power to the community, and we want to just get the excitement out, really,” said percussion instructor at Meridian Public School District Vincent Kidd.

While the performance was fun for audience members, it’s also good practice for the upcoming school year.

“We’re going to give them some cheers and some dances and get them excited for the school year, and it’s kind of like a pre-season pep rally for us to get ready for the season,” said Senior Cheer Captain Katie Allyn Ward.

“We’re just excited to start the season off, honestly. This is one of the first performances of the school year, and we want to show the community what we got this year. We’re going to bring a lot of excitement,” said Kidd.

“It’s really good to get our community involved, and we’re working really hard this year to get better at some certain skills, so It’s good to get the community involved and show them that we’re working really hard,” said Woodall.
