MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – “What we have going today is our annual Back to School Bash school supply giveaway. We’ve been doing it for a number of years now, and pretty much it consists of various organizations, civic groups, fraternities, sororities, churches, businesses, coming together and just giving back to the community,” said Thomas Adams, Director of Meridian Parks and Recreation.
“What we saw today was children and very involved organizations speaking with the children, making sure that they had everything that they need to be successful for the school year,” said Deona Fox, parent.
“It’s very, very important for the community for one, to make sure that all of our children, that all children, have the necessary, you know, supplies to start to school with because you never know someone’s situation and what not,” said Adams.
“I would say it’s important because it really helps those parents that are in need that may not be able to supply every material or resource, so with this event, it kind of takes some of the stress out of getting prepared for school,” said Fox.
“We plan to do another event like this in January because, you know, the kids are out for Christmas break, New Year’s, and they got to go back to school, yean a start type of deal, and we want to do it in the Frank Cochran Center,” said Adams.
“We’re just so thankful for that, and we’re also thankful for the City of Meridian for hosting this event and Parks and Recreation, so we just want to give a shoutout to them, kudos to them, for just thinking about the children because they are our future, so we want to just pour into them and hopefully one day when they grow up they are going to give back to where they come from,” said Emma Boyd, grandparent.
