MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A Dedication Ceremony was held to honor former Meridian Mayor Cheri Barry Tuesday Morning at First Presbyterian Church.
During the ceremony, it was announced that a portion of Highway 39 that starts at North Hills Street and extends South for one mile will now be called the “Cheri M. Barry Memorial Highway.”
This was a unanimous decision by the City Council and the Mississippi House and Senate.
“Here today on Rick and Cheri’s, what would have been 47th wedding anniversary, to be able to unveil this, to have the family, to have such good attendance here today just means a lot to who she was and what she meant to so many people, not just as a mayor, but not just out of Red Cross, but as a mother, as a wife, as a sister, as an aunt… well deserved,” said Mississippi State Senator Jeff Tate.
Barry died of Cancer on Christmas Eve of last year.
