MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The MSU Riley Center announces its Fall 2024 Phil Hardin Education Series, bringing two captivating theatrical performances to the Historic Theater, tailored specifically for young audiences from Pre-K to elementary school.
Kicking off the series on Tuesday, September 24, Theatre MSU will present a delightful adaptation of E.B. White’s classic tale, Charlotte’s Web. This beloved story, recommended for students in grades four through six, will be brought to life through a blend of puppetry and music. Adapted by Joseph Robinette, Charlotte’s Web explores the heartwarming friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a spider named Charlotte, who devises a plan to save Wilbur from being slaughtered by weaving messages of praise into her web.
The series continues on Thursday, November 7, when Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia takes the stage with a double feature for Pre-K through third grade. The performance includes adaptations of Margaret Wise Brown’s cherished stories, Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. Goodnight Moon beautifully captures the comforting bedtime routine, while The Runaway Bunny tells a whimsical tale of a young bunny’s imaginative escape plans and his mother’s reassuring responses.
Attendees of the November 7 performance will also have the opportunity to visit the Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian, located just a short distance from the MSU Riley Center, to explore the nation’s only permanent Goodnight Moon exhibit. For more details on this exhibit, visit MSChildrensMuseum.org/meridian.
Both performances are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., designed to accommodate the attention spans of young viewers. Tickets are affordably priced at $5 each, with scholarship funds available thanks to the Phil Hardin Foundation’s generosity.
