New Exhibition Spotlights Alexa Lee at Meridian Museum of Art

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Meridian Museum of Art announced the latest addition to its gallery lineup: an exclusive showcase of Alexa Lee’s work as part of the 49th Annual Bi-State Competition Winner Invitational Show. This captivating exhibition will be on view until September 28, 2024, with a special reception scheduled for September 7, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Alexa Lee, a Birmingham-based painter and ceramic artist, has gained recognition throughout the southeastern United States. Her previous exhibitions include prominent venues such as the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, The Meridian Museum of Art, and the Gadsden Museum of Art. Lee completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2024.

Lee’s art delves into themes of memory and its impact on both the body and mind. Her narrative figure paintings draw inspiration from aesthetic and romantic artists like James McNeill Whistler and John William Waterhouse. In addition to her paintings, Lee’s ceramic pieces—ranging from functional vessels to sculptural forms—explore narrative and the fragile nature of human existence.

The Meridian Museum of Art’s main floor will feature thirty-one of Lee’s oil paintings and ceramics, including her award-winning piece, Daily Bread, which earned Best of Show at the 49th Annual Bi-State Competition and Exhibition.

The Meridian Museum of Art, supported by a range of patrons and organizations including the Phil Hardin Foundation, the Mississippi Arts Commission, the Riley Foundation, the Community Foundation of East Mississippi, and the Paul and Sherry Broadhead Foundation, offers free admission. Located at 628 25th Avenue, the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
