PHILIADELPHIA, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Philadelphia police have arrested a suspect linked to a series of shootings on Beacon Street, near the Burger King, where about 15 vehicles were hit by gunfire this week. Three of the incidents resulted in injuries.
On the early morning of August 24, officers canvassed the Alford Avenue area, believed to be the source of the gunfire. During a search of a residence on Alford Avenue, police recovered a handgun from a bedroom. Jonathan Salvador, 31, a Mexican national, was taken into custody and is suspected of being in the country illegally.
Police returned to the scene later that morning to conduct a more thorough search. They discovered an AR-style rifle and ammunition in the residence, located adjacent to a small, overgrown lot. Authorities found nearly 30 shell casings in the lot that matched the caliber of the recovered weapon. Investigators also noted the trajectory of the gunfire as it struck passing vehicles.
Further investigation revealed that Salvador had purchased ammunition from a local gun dealer and had attempted to buy an AR-15 just days before the shootings. His attempt was denied, and he only acquired the ammunition. Officials believe Salvador intended to carry out additional attacks throughout the city.
Salvador faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder. It is currently unclear whether this case is connected to recent shootings targeting windows of local businesses in downtown Philadelphia. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities will provide updates as they become available.
Salvador is being held at the Winston-Choctaw Jail.
