PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (WTOK) -Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons said on Monday that Homeland Security and the A-T-F were briefing them on Jonathan Salvador’s true identity. Fingerprints obtained by Homeland Security confirmed that his official name is Fredy Antonio Amaya-Marin, 39, of El Salvador.
Chief Lyons said that evidence showed that Fredy had previously been deported back to El Salvador in 2007 and re-entered the county illegally again.
“It was determined that he was actually an MS-13 gang member, a confirmed gang member. If you’re familiar with MS-13, you know how violent and dangerous those guys can be. So to have those guys here in Philadelphia is disturbing,” says Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons.
Fredy Antonio Amaya-Marin currently faces up to 8 counts of attempted murder in the Beacon Street shootings and also faces some federal charges, including illegal re-entry after deportation and illegal aliens in possession of a firearm.
The series of shootings frazzles the citizens of Philadelphia as he had been living in the U.S. for quite some time.
“It’s disturbing. We don’t deal with anything like this normally, so for us to have an MS-13 gang member in our community and live had been living for a while so it’s quite disturbing. We want to assure the community that we’re working hard to rid this community of Illegal activity, especially dangerous gang members as well,” Chief Eric Lyons says.
With the help of Homeland Security, the Philadelphia Police Department and many other federal agents, they were able to work this case successfully.
Chief Lyons says, “I want to thank these officers out here every day for putting their lives on the line, as well as these state and federal agents who do this on an everyday basis. Homeland security does a great job protecting the borders and keeping these guys out of the United States, so again, we’re proud of those guys and appreciate the working relationship that we have with them.”
Amaya-Marin is currently being held without bond and is also being held by Homeland Security Ice for a process of removal from the U.S.
