MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – As Hurricane Francine intensifies in the Gulf of Mexico, the Salvation Army of Meridian is mobilizing to assist Gulf Coast communities ahead of the storm’s projected landfall.
The organization’s disaster response team in Meridian is preparing for severe weather, potential damage, and power outages in Lauderdale, Newton, Neshoba, and Kemper counties.
In addition to on-the-ground efforts, the Salvation Army is coordinating with local government agencies and community partners to ensure a unified disaster response.
Residents are urged to take precautions, including charging phones and electronic devices, having medications ready, and stocking up on food, water, and other essentials for at least three days.
The Salvation Army also recommends keeping flashlights with fresh batteries and filling up vehicles. With power outages likely, residents are advised to have some cash available.
The Salvation Army of Meridian is also seeking volunteers for local relief events. Training and support will be provided for those interested in helping their community during and after the storm.
“We are monitoring Francine closely and taking all necessary precautions to respond swiftly,” said William Trueblood, Emergency Disaster Services Director for the ALM Division.
“Our teams are ready to assist with immediate relief efforts, including providing those affected meals, essential supplies, and emotional support.
The Salvation Army has a long history of responding to natural disasters, particularly along the Gulf Coast, where hurricanes and tropical storms frequently pose a threat.
