Lauderdale County Schools Achieve “A” Rating for Third Consecutive Year

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Dr. John-Mark Cain, Superintendent of Lauderdale County Schools, recently addressed members of the Rotary Club and the Northwood Country Club, celebrating the district’s outstanding achievement of receiving an “A” rating from the Mississippi Department of Education for the 2023-2024 Accountability Ratings.

This marks the third consecutive year that Lauderdale County Schools has earned an “A” rating, a testament to the district’s commitment to academic excellence.

In his speech, Dr. Cain highlighted the district’s growth, noting that it now serves approximately 6,010 students—an important milestone as it’s the first time enrollment has surpassed 6,000 since 2017.

“Thanks to our community, our parents, our teachers, our students. It is something to celebrate. It’s hard work, you know, it doesn’t just happen, but I think it’s a testament to the community support that we have. We’re thankful, and we just want to continue to grow and provide a great product for Lauderdale County,” said Cain.

During his meeting at the Rotary Club, Dr. Cain also shared exciting developments regarding the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) building, which is set to begin construction within the next two weeks.

The projected completion date is December 10, 2025. This new facility will house critical programs, including Business & Marketing, Educator Prep, Ag Power, and Law & Public Safety, aimed at providing students with essential skills for their future careers.

Additionally, Dr. Cain emphasized the district’s commitment to safety, announcing that a Lauderdale County sheriff’s deputy will now be stationed at each LCSD campus to enhance security measures for students and staff.

Dr. Cain also referenced Lauderdale County Schools as the first school district in Mississippi to have both the state administrator and teacher of the year from the same school system.
