Threats Made Against Kemper County Judge and Sheriff; Suspect Arrested

KEMPER COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Kemper County Sheriff’s Department reported a serious threat made against Justice Court Judge Mary Gully and Sheriff James Moore on Tuesday morning.

The threats were made by Dewyan K. Johnson at a local gas station around 9:58 a.m.

According to authorities, Johnson made alarming statements to an employee, asserting that Sheriff Moore and Judge Gully “did not know who they were messing with” and warned that they were “going down.”

Johnson was charged with Retaliation Against A Public Servant or Witness

This incident follows Johnson’s recent arrest on multiple charges, including making threats to kill, firing a weapon into a dwelling, and discharging a firearm in a crowded area.

Following the threats, an affidavit and arrest warrant were presented to a Circuit Judge, who reviewed the evidence and issued a warrant for Johnson’s arrest with no bond due to his prior offenses.
