Meridian Community College’s Candy Cruise Returns on October 29

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Meridian Community College’s popular Candy Cruise is set to roll out on Tuesday, October 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the MCC Track, promising an evening of fun for students, faculty, staff, and the public.

“This event has become a favorite for our community, and we’re excited to continue the tradition this year,” said Jan Murphy, manager of the MCC Eagle’s Nest Bookstore. The event is hosted by the bookstore and sponsored by the MCC Foundation, featuring 19 teams from various campus programs and student organizations that will set up booths offering candy, treats, and smiles.

“The best thing about Candy Cruise is that it brings the College and community together,” Murphy added. “Everyone is smiling and having a great time just enjoying each other’s company and costumes.”

Dr. Leia Hill, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the MCC Foundation, expressed pride in the Foundation’s support for the event. “It’s a wonderful way to engage with the community and celebrate together. This event embodies what we’re all about—building connections and creating memorable experiences that bring joy to everyone involved.”

Last year, more than 2,600 people attended, with around 1,300 pounds of candy distributed by students, faculty, staff, and MCC administration. This year’s event will feature teams dressed in festive costumes with creative themes, including The Magic School Bus, World of Lego, and Mad Scientists. Notably, MCC’s Dental Hygiene students will participate as tooth fairies, distributing toothbrushes and toothpaste.

To accommodate guests with special needs, an early entry will be offered from 5 to 5:30 p.m., providing a calmer environment with fewer crowds, sensory-friendly items, and accessible parking. Those requiring special accommodations can contact Murphy at 601-484-8614 or via email at [email protected] for a pass.

Originally introduced in 2020 as a drive-through event during the pandemic, Candy Cruise has evolved into an in-person celebration, drawing hundreds of attendees each year. “We’re always evaluating anything we can do to improve it,” Murphy noted.

Admission to the Candy Cruise is free and open to the public.
