MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Meridian Community College Candy Cruise was in full swing Tuesday evening.
The event started in 2020 as a result of the pandemic, and has continued to grow every year. This is the 3rd year the event has been hosted on the track.
Each year different groups and organizations from the college sign up to decorate different booths and hand out candy to local children.
Jan Murphy is the store manager of the Eagle’s Nest Book Store at the college, and she said it’s important to provide area families with a place for trick-or-treating.
“The Community does so much for us at Meridian Community College, so we just want to give back, and this is a way that we can do that. It’s a kid friendly event. They really enjoy seeing all the different costumes and everything that we have. And like I said, we do it around the track, so we try to have a safe environment where everybody can just walk around and have fun as well as there’s some educational things here too. So, we do some Halloween safety, and we finish it up with giving out some tooth brushes and tooth paste. So, it’s a way that we can show that learning can also be a lot of fun,” said Murphy.
Last year more than 2400 people attended the Candy Cruise, and organizers said they are on track to have about that many this year as well.
“My favorite candy is M&Ms,” said 5-year-old Ollie.
