MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A pedestrian was killed after being struck by an 18-wheeler Monday evening on Interstate 20 near Exit 154 in Meridian. The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m.
Lauderdale County Coroner Stella McMahan confirmed the identity of the victim as Christopher Ray Winfield, 40, of Meridian.
According to Acting Capt. Dareall Thompson, Winfield was hit in the eastbound lanes and was thrown into the westbound lanes of the interstate.
McMahan had initially withheld the pedestrian’s identity pending family notification. No charges have been filed, and no arrests had been made as of Monday night.
The Meridian Police Department’s accident reconstruction team is handling the investigation.
