2nd Annual Battle Of The Beards Raises Money For Local Cancer Center

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The 2nd annual Battle of the Beards took place outside of Meridian Underground Music Saturday night.

The event coincided with No Shave November and was an effort to raise awareness for Prostate Cancer and also raise money for the Baptist Anderson Cancer Center Benevolent Fund.

More around 20 participants entered the contest and took turns speaking to the crowd and showing off their beards to the judges.

“Currently, our sponsors are First Mississippi Federal Credit Union and Magnolia Beverage, and being sponsors, they’ve been so kind as to write checks to the Baptist Anderson Cancer Center Benevolent Fund, so we’ve raised money there, plus the entry fee for all the beards and of course the sales for the bear and such tonight,” said Wayne Williams, Owner of Meridian Underground Music. “We’re just trying to have a good time this year, raise some awareness, and then the third annual we’ll probably be able to improve upon each year. That’s the goal, and maybe in some short period of years, we’ll be able to have some really big festival around it or something. We hope for the best.”
