MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Waste Pro, the City of Meridian’s contracted waste collection service, acknowledged delays in debris pickup and outlined steps to address the backlog. The company attributed the slowdown to a rise in “noncompliance piles,” which consist of improperly sorted yard waste and materials not accepted at landfills.
“These piles often mix leaves and limbs, which can’t be processed by our leaf machines,” explained a Waste Pro spokesperson. “Additionally, construction debris, household trash, and electronics cannot be disposed of in landfills and create further complications.”
The release highlighted the importance of resident cooperation in proper debris preparation. Property owners are advised to:
- Separate yard waste: Leaves should be free of branches, and limbs should be cut to manageable lengths.
- Hire responsibly: Landscaping crews are responsible for removing their own yard debris.
- Review disposal guidelines: Waste Pro’s website (https://www.wasteprousa.com/meridian/) provides clear instructions on sorting and placement of yard waste, construction debris, and leaves. The site also details items not accepted at landfills, such as paint, plastic bottles, tires, and electronics.
Waste Pro committed to several measures to expedite pickup:
- Increased capacity: A fourth grapple truck will be added to daily operations.
- Extended hours: Longer workdays and possible Saturday shifts are planned to address the backlog.
“We understand the inconvenience this causes,” the spokesperson stated. “We urge residents to follow proper disposal guidelines for a smoother and more efficient process. Together, we can resolve this issue and maintain a clean and healthy community.”
Waste Pro expressed its appreciation to the City of Meridian and pledged to work diligently to alleviate the debris pickup delays.
