Lauderdale County School District Students Participate in Shloop Footwear Design Competition

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A unique opportunity has given local students a chance to step into the world of marketing and design. The Lauderdale County School District, in partnership with Shloop, has launched a shoe design competition.

“They’ve started at the school level. Many of our classes, including health sciences, marketing and business, various other CTE courses that we’ve had have been involved in this process. So, they’ve put together research so that they can begin with a design and a concept and go all the way through the production process with the Shloop manufacturing company,” said Rob Smith, CTE Director for LCSD.

Tuesday, at the Peavey Electronics Headquarters in Meridian, the top teams from West Lauderdale High School, Southeast High School, Northeast High School, and Clarkdale High School presented their innovative designs to a panel of industry experts.

The competition is more than just a fun activity. It’s a chance for students to learn valuable skills and gain real-world experience.

“It fosters creativity. It fosters teamwork, problem solving skills, and leadership skills. The ability to stand in front of a group of judges and not be too nervous and actually present. All of these are things that our local business and industries say we need to instill within our students — especially teamwork and problem solving skills,” said Smith.

The winning design will be announced on the 10th of this month and will be produced by Shloop.

“It’s been a dream for a long time to find a facet in which we can connect our students directly with industry and make  a big impact, and I think this is one of those efforts,” said Smith.

This initiative not only showcases the talent of local students but also strengthens the bond between education and industry.
