KEMPER COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Kemper County Sheriff’s Office is cautioning residents about a new Apple Pay scam involving fraudulent emails and text messages designed to steal personal information.
According to authorities, scammers are sending deceptive emails with incorrect headers. If recipients click on any links within these emails, they will be directed to a fake website designed to harvest sensitive data.
The scam also extends to text messages, which are even more concerning. Clicking links in the text messages can either grant scammers immediate access to all the information stored on a device or redirect victims to a fraudulent site that asks for personal details under the guise of “verification.”
The Sheriff’s Department advises anyone who receives suspicious emails or text messages not to click on any links or interact with the message. Instead, recipients are urged to delete the messages immediately and block the sender.
Residents are reminded to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any communications related to financial services. For more information or to report suspicious activity, contact the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office.
