MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A fully involved structure fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night at 5th Avenue South and C Street in the Tuxedo area of Meridian.
Witnesses reported seeing at least four people running out of the building when the fire started. Neighbors confirmed that the structure involved in the blaze was an abandoned church.
Meridian Fire Chief Michael Evans spoke to Queen City Newsfeed early Thursday morning and said investigators believe the fire was most likely started by unhoused individuals trying to stay warm. Evans also stated that he does NOT believe this fire is related to Monday’s arson investigation at the Magnolia House.
No fatalities have been reported at this time, but investigators are still examining the scene.
A power line was also found to be down behind the building.
We’ll have more updates if and when they become available.
