MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Meridian Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Tuesday morning in the 300 block of 56th Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:46 a.m., and upon arrival, crews found the building engulfed in flames.
No injuries were reported. Fire Chief Michael Evans said that the structure appeared to be abandoned, with no signs of recent activity. Neighbors in the area reported that they had not seen anyone enter or exit the building in quite some time.
Chief Evans also took to Facebook to provide further insight into the incident. He explained that the fire crews faced an additional challenge when they arrived on scene: a live power line was lying on the porch of the building. This posed a significant safety hazard and prevented firefighters from approaching the front door to suppress the fire.
“Captain noticed a live power line lying on the porch, so that kept them from going in the front door,” Evans wrote in his post. “The other crews went around back and made entry through a window. Good job, B-Shift.”
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but no injuries were reported during the operation.
The Meridian Fire Department has not released further details at this time. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
