Meridian Police Department Hosts Opioid Response Training

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – On Wednesday afternoon, the Meridian Police Department (MPD) began a two-day training session with the Mississippi Public Health Institute (MSPHI) aimed at improving responses to the ongoing opioid crisis.

The session, led by John Conway, MSPHI Program Manager, provided MPD officers and city employees from various departments—including Code Enforcement and Animal Control—with essential training on how to handle overdose situations.

As part of the training, each participant received a Naloxone kit, which they will carry in their vehicles to be prepared to respond to potential opioid overdoses.

The training is part of a broader initiative to better equip the city’s first responders and employees to address opioid-related emergencies, contributing to efforts to make Meridian a safer community.
