MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A lucky Mississippi Lottery player is making history after hitting the $10 million Powerball Double Play jackpot in Monday night’s drawing. The winning ticket, purchased at Petal Food Mart in Petal, Miss., matched all five white balls plus the Double Play Powerball, making it the largest win in the state’s lottery history.
The historic win also marks a milestone for the national Powerball Double Play game, as this is only the fifth top prize win since the feature’s inception. The Mississippi Lottery became part of the nationwide Powerball Double Play expansion in September 2023.
“This is a milestone for the Mississippi Lottery,” said Mississippi Lottery President Jeff Hewitt. “Not only do we have our first Powerball Double Play top-prize winner, but this is also the largest lottery win in our state’s history. It’s an exciting day for players and retailers.”
The Powerball Double Play feature, introduced nationwide on Aug. 23, 2021, provides players with an additional chance to win after the regular Powerball drawing. For an extra $1, players can add the Double Play feature to their ticket, giving them another shot in a separate drawing.
Since the feature’s introduction, only four other players nationwide have won the $10 million top prize, including:
- Maryland: One win in 2021
- Florida: Two wins in 2022
- Kentucky: One win in 2024
The winning ticket from Petal Food Mart is the first to hit this major prize in Mississippi, continuing the state’s growing participation in the Powerball game.
