MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Nearly 1,800 students gathered at The Evangel Temple on Friday, February 21st, for the debut of OrKIDstra 2025, an exciting performance of Peter and The Wolf with a special interactive twist, thanks to Huntsville MET and the Meridian Symphony Orchestra. The event was designed to engage and inspire students through a unique blend of music and storytelling.
The performance allowed students to not only enjoy the classic tale but also participate in an interactive experience that brought the music to life. The collaboration between Huntsville MET and the Meridian Symphony Orchestra aimed to foster an appreciation for the arts and music in a way that was both fun and educational.
After the show, students from Earl Nash Elementary in Macon, MS, enjoyed a “Taste of Meridian” experience at the Copeland Center. The event featured six engaging learning stations, curated by the Mississippi Children’s Museum – Meridian, the Meridian Museum of Art, and Mississippi Power. Students dived into hands-on activities ranging from arts and crafts to Lego building, sparking creativity and excitement among the young participants.
Kayla Fuentes, Education Director at the Meridian Symphony, shared her hopes that events like these help bridge the gap in arts education and inspire students to explore the arts further. She emphasized the importance of introducing children to creative outlets that can enrich their lives and open new opportunities. Fuentes also expressed her desire for these events to encourage visitors to return to Meridian, showcasing the city’s commitment to arts and culture.
The event was a great success, leaving students with memorable experiences and new ways to explore the world of music and learning.
