Community Gathers for 78th Annual Pancake Jubilee in Meridian

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The 78th Pancake Jubilee, hosted by the Downtown Optimist Club of Meridian, took place Tuesday at the Temple Ballroom, bringing together the community for a fun-filled day of food and fellowship. The event, which ran until 7 p.m., served up stacks of all-you-can-eat pancakes with all the fixings, including sausage, syrup, milk, soda, and coffee.

The Downtown Optimist Club depends on this one primary fundraiser each year to support the many programs it donates to in the Meridian area. The Pancake Jubilee is a vital source of funding for these initiatives. Typically held from 6:30 a.m. to around 7:00 p.m. on a single day, the event feeds as many as 3,000 people annually. On average, more than 12,000 pancakes and 7,500 sausage patties are cooked, while gallons of butter and syrup are poured, and thousands of cartons of milk and cans of Coca-Cola help wash it all down.

For nearly 80 years, the DTOC Pancake Jubilee has been a cherished tradition for residents of Meridian and Lauderdale County. It has become one of the most anticipated events of the year, with families returning each year. Parents who have benefited from the resources generated by the event now bring their children and grandchildren to enjoy the grand time of food and fellowship with their neighbors. The Pancake Jubilee is often referred to as “Meridian’s Front Porch,” a place where friends can gather, enjoy great food, support a great cause, and relax together.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Downtown Optimist Club’s programs, which support youth and local community initiatives.
