MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed)- The Meridian Public School District (MPSD) is set to celebrate National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) from March 3-7, 2025, promoting the benefits of a nutritious start to the day for students.
With busy weekday mornings making it difficult for some families to prepare a healthy breakfast, MPSD provides cafeteria-style meals at no charge to all students. The district’s breakfast options include yogurt parfaits, fruit and yogurt salads, fresh fruit, and assorted milk.
The 2025 NSBW theme, “Clue Into School Breakfast,” emphasizes how a nutritious morning meal helps students stay energized and focused throughout the day. Research shows that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to achieve higher reading and math scores, perform better on standardized tests, have improved concentration and memory, and maintain a healthy weight.
Throughout the week, school nutrition staff and students will take part in special menus and activities. Poplar Springs Elementary School will serve as the district’s showcase location, featuring new menu items each day. The week will conclude on Friday, March 7, with a “Glowing to Find Clues” event.
“A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is a great way to ensure students are nourished and ready to learn,” said Louise McPhee, MPSD director of child nutrition. “National School Breakfast Week helps us educate parents and students about all our nutritious and delicious choices.”
