The fire began when a structure on South Caroline Avenue caught fire and spread to a neighboring home. Firefighters quickly contained the second blaze, preventing further damage to the adjacent property. Crews continue to work on extinguishing the initial fire.

The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office was first called to the scene for a possible domestic disturbance. While deputies were speaking with neighbors, some indicated that the male individual may have been inside the home. One witness suggested the man might have exited through the back door when he saw law enforcement approaching.

The area remains sealed off as an active investigation, with only authorized personnel allowed inside the potential crime scene.

More details will follow as the investigation continues.
