LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Youth Leadership Lauderdale (YLL) is continuing to show its commitment to bettering the community by raising funds for the Wesley House Community Center and donating essential supplies to Hope Village for Children.
Friday, YLL proudly presented a check for $616.03 to the Wesley House Community Center, a result of a successful and fun-filled pickleball tournament. The tournament was not only a great way to bring the community together but also served as a meaningful fundraiser.
Cooper Sellers, a junior at West Lauderdale, expressed his excitement for getting involved, saying, “Do your research. I didn’t even know that the first and third Wednesday of every month, the Wesley House hands out food and things like that and you can be a part of it.”
Kennedy Parker, also a junior at West Lauderdale, added, “We had a pickleball tournament…We thought it would help bring the community together.” She encourages others to take part in community efforts, saying, “Don’t be scared to do something different or something with your community.”
In addition to their fundraising efforts, YLL members recently held a drive to collect toiletries for the children at Hope Village for Children, a local organization that provides shelter and care for youth in need. Led by YLL member Le’tedra Amos, the group gathered items such as paper towels, toothbrushes, soap, and other hygiene essentials to support the children. Amos shared, “We chose Hope Village as our group because being in high school, we are around these children all the time, and we just wanted to support them and show that we care for them because we are always with them.”
These efforts exemplify the spirit of giving back, as Youth Leadership Lauderdale continues to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Through fundraising, donating supplies, and engaging with the community, these young leaders are truly making a lasting impact.
Kudos to these students for their dedication to improving the community and setting an inspiring example of leadership and compassion for others to follow.
