MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Wesley House Community Center held its first-ever “Lights of Hope and Healing” event Wednesday evening at Dumont Plaza in Downtown Meridian.
The event, held in recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, aimed to honor both past and future victims while raising awareness about the importance of support and prevention.
During the gathering, attendees heard powerful testimonies from survivors, reinforcing the need to share their stories—no matter how recent or distant their experiences may be.
Organizers said the goal is to create awareness and help reduce future violence towards children and adults.
Brandy Rea, Executive Director of Wesley House, expressed her hope that the event will continue to grow each year, fostering a stronger community of support.
“One takeaway I hope attendees have is their support matters, and by them showing their support here, with other survivors, it just takes one to reach the next one. One person makes a difference,” said Rea.
Wesley House plans to continue its mission of advocacy and support, ensuring that survivors’ voices are heard and that the community remains committed to prevention and healing.
