AmeriCorps/RSVP Health Fair Honors Local Heroes with Free Health Screenings in Meridian

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The AmeriCorps/RSVP Health Fair, hosted at the United Way of East Mississippi, concluded today at 2 p.m. after providing free health screenings, light refreshments, and exciting giveaways to First Responders and Veterans from Meridian and Lauderdale County. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., was designed to honor local heroes with much-needed health services and community support.

Although AmeriCorps officially disbanded on March 31, 2025, the event, which had been scheduled well in advance, provided a fitting tribute to the hardworking First Responders and Veterans in the area.

Lix Nix, a volunteer with AmeriCorps, spoke to local news about the significance of the health fair, noting that it was a meaningful way to give back to the community. “We are here today to honor those who serve and protect us, ensuring they have access to important health resources,” she said.

Participating organizations that made the event a success included:

  • Home Instead

  • MS Tobacco Free Coalition of Lauderdale and Newton Counties

  • National Alliance of Mental Illness of Meridian

  • J.G. Alexander Nursing Center

  • MS Department of Health

  • Southern MS Planning & Development District

These groups offered a range of services, from screenings to informational resources aimed at improving the well-being of local First Responders and Veterans.
