Memorial Garden Honoring Homicide Victims Unveiled in Lauderdale County

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A memorial garden honoring homicide victims was unveiled Thursday during a ceremony at the Lauderdale County Government Complex. The event, held at 3 p.m., was part of the 2025 observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

The Lauderdale County Homicide Victim Memorial Garden serves as a permanent symbol of remembrance, support, and advocacy for those affected by homicide. It is intended to provide a space for reflection and healing for victims’ families and the wider community.

The dedication was organized by the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s Office and is one of several efforts taking place nationwide during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, observed April 6–12. The week is dedicated to raising awareness of victims’ rights and recognizing the experiences of crime victims and survivors.

As part of the unveiling, District Attorney Kassie Coleman shared that plans are underway to incorporate ways to individually honor homicide victims in the garden. Details of that effort are still being finalized.

The memorial is now open to the public at the Lauderdale County Government Complex. A full interview with District Attorney Coleman is available.
