MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A fire early Sunday caused significant damage to Amore Italian Ristorante & Bar in downtown Meridian, forcing the restaurant to close indefinitely while investigators work to determine the cause.
The call reporting the fire came in at approximately 2:18 a.m. Sunday, May 31, according to Meridian Fire Chief Michael Evans.
Firefighters responded to Amore Italian Ristorante & Bar, located at 1600 24th Ave., where Evans said heavy flames were visible when crews arrived on scene.
After firefighters knocked down a portion of the blaze, Evans was able to document conditions at the scene as crews continued working to contain the fire.
The fire is believed to have started on the third floor above the bar area, Evans said. The cause remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
In a statement posted to Facebook, Amore Italian Ristorante said the restaurant would remain closed until further notice.
“Amore will be closed until further notice. As a result of the fire, significant damage has been caused to the building. We thank you all for understanding as we navigate through this difficult situation,” the statement read.
Evans commended members of the Meridian Fire Department for their response to the incident.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours working to extinguish hotspots and assess damage to the structure.
Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
