MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) — Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church will host a dedication ceremony June 22 for a new community Blessing Box designed to provide food, hygiene products and other essential items to those in need.
The dedication is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the church’s 40th Street parking lot at 3937 Poplar Springs Drive in Meridian.
Organizers describe the project with the motto, “Take what you need, leave what you can,” encouraging community members to both utilize and support the resource. The Blessing Box will offer non-perishable food items, hygiene products and other household necessities.
The church is inviting residents to attend the event and help celebrate the launch of the new community resource. Free sno-cones and popcorn will be available during the dedication.
Suggested donations for the Blessing Box include canned foods, peanut butter, rice, pasta, cereal, crackers, shelf-stable milk, bottled water, hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and deodorant, as well as diapers, baby wipes and cleaning supplies. Organizers ask donors to check expiration dates before contributing food items.
Church leaders said the Blessing Box is intended to serve as a neighborhood resource where community members can support one another by sharing essential items with those facing food insecurity or other challenges.
