PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) — The Neshoba County Sheriff’s Department issued a traffic advisory Tuesday afternoon warning drivers of an upcoming road closure at the Road 298 and Highway 19 South intersection in the House Community. The department pushed the advisory through its mobile app at 2:28 p.m. on June 16, 2026.
What Drivers Need to Know
Starting Wednesday morning, June 17, drivers can no longer access Road 298 from Highway 19 South. The Road 298 and Highway 19 South closure in Neshoba County stems from the ongoing expansion of State Route 19 between House and Tucker — one of the largest active construction projects in the county.
Officials expect the closure to last several months, or until crews complete the northbound lane at that intersection.
Alternate Route
Drivers needing Road 298 during the closure should use Road 4300 to access the area. Allow extra travel time and plan the route accordingly.
Speed Limit and Passing Reminder
The Sheriff’s Department reminded drivers that Highway 19 South is a No Passing Zone from Tucker to House. The speed limit in that stretch is 45 mph. Use caution through the construction zone and obey all posted signs and traffic control devices.
The department thanked the public for its patience and cooperation as the project moves forward.
About the Highway 19 Expansion
The $97.4 million project will widen State Route 19 from two lanes to four between House and Tucker. The expansion includes construction of nine bridges, new northbound lanes, and reconstruction of the existing roadway to serve as future southbound lanes.
According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, five bridges are already complete, with two additional bridges currently under construction in the new northbound alignment.
The final two bridges will be built after traffic shifts onto the new lanes. All box culverts have been installed, while crews continue earthwork, clearing, grubbing, and material hauling.
The project is being handled by W.G. Yates & Son Construction Company of Philadelphia and is expected to wrap up in spring 2028.
