DEKALB, Miss. — The Kemper County Sheriff’s Office is expanding its canine division by adding an explosives-detection police dog to the force, according to a department announcement.
Handler Illya McClendon and his partner, Viper, are completing specialized training and are scheduled to begin street patrols in “just a few weeks,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The department stated it is “proud to add explosives detection to our expanding K-9 unit, bringing another valuable resource to Kemper County and strengthening our ability to protect our schools, keep our communities safe, and assist our law enforcement partners.”
“We look forward to welcoming this team home as they finish their training and begin serving together,” the office said. “Welcome to the team, Viper!”
