A medical helicopter has crashed near the Natchez Trace and Hwy 43.
Madison County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Heath Hall says the crash is in a heavily wooded area south of the Natchez Trace and north of Pipeline Road.
Hall said there are fatalities involved in the crash.
UMMC released a statement saying that two UMMC employee crew members and a Med-Trans pilot were on board. There was no patient on board.
“This afternoon, an AirCare helicopter had an accident in Madison County, north of the Ross Barness Reservoir. Law Enforcement and first-response units have responded to the scene and families are being contacted. We will share more information when possible”
Multiple agencies are on the scene and en route to assist. Authorities say the investigation will be taken over by the Federal Aviation Administration and further information will come from them.
