Meridian City Council Launches ‘Turkeys for Teachers’ Initiative to Honor Local Educators

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Meridian City Council is giving thanks to local educators this holiday season with a new community initiative called “Turkeys for Teachers.”

The program aims to provide a Thanksgiving turkey to every teacher in the city as a show of appreciation for their hard work and dedication to Meridian’s students.

“This initiative is about feeding those who feed our young minds,” said Councilwoman Romande Walker. “Our teachers give their all in time, patience, and passion. This is one way we can say thank you. It’s also a reminder that the momentum in our community starts with the people who give every day.”

The council is inviting residents, churches, and local businesses to join the effort by donating funds or additional turkeys. Those wishing to contribute can contact Jo Ann Clark at (601) 485-1959 or Mary Pritchett at (601) 527-3972.

City officials say every donation helps ensure no teacher in Meridian goes without a Thanksgiving meal this year.

The Turkeys for Teachers initiative is part of the city’s broader effort to promote community spirit and continue building what local leaders call “Momentum in Meridian.”
