CLARKE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Clarke County officials are inviting residents to celebrate Mardi Gras with a pair of parades and community festivities set for early March in Quitman and Stonewall.
Organizers said the Clarke County Mardi Gras Celebration is structured around participation and convenience, with events scheduled to allow communities across the county to take part.
The first event, a night parade in Quitman, is planned for Friday, March 6. Lineup begins at 5 p.m. on Harris Avenue near Dart’s, and the parade will start at 6 p.m., ending at the Quitman Fire Department.
Parade participants are being sought for the Quitman event, including businesses, community organizations, elected officials, golf carts, side-by-sides, antique vehicles and horses. Four-wheelers will not be permitted in the Quitman parade.
The celebration will continue Saturday, March 7, in Stonewall, with a daytime parade and “Mardi Party.” Lineup begins at 10 a.m. at Jones College, with the parade starting at 11 a.m. The route will turn around at the railroad tracks near River of Life Church.
Organizers are also seeking participants for the Stonewall parade, including businesses, organizations, elected officials, golf carts, side-by-sides, four-wheelers, antique vehicles and horses.
Following the parade, the Mardi Party will be held at the softball field next to Stonewall Town Hall. Vendors may begin setting up as early as 8 a.m. Food vendors, informational booths, medical providers and entertainers are encouraged to participate.
Those interested in joining either parade, becoming a vendor or providing entertainment can call 228-424-5975 for more information.
Organizers say the goal is to give Clarke County residents a local Mardi Gras experience while bringing the community together.
