JACKSON – Mississippi residents in 36 counties affected by the winter storms that struck the state Jan. 23-27 may be eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
MEMA said the assistance is available for people impacted by the federally declared disaster identified as DR-4899.
Residents can apply for assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA or through the FEMA mobile app, according to the agency.
MEMA said basic eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship or qualified status, identity verification through a Social Security number or other accepted documents, proof of home ownership or occupancy and unmet needs not covered by insurance.
The agency is encouraging residents whose homes or property were damaged in the storms to apply for any assistance they may qualify to receive.
